DV Garage, San Francisco (Collaboration) April 2000. Alex and I had a dream, a similar dream. We were both convinced that we could change the way news is gathered, stories are told and important archived through the use of digital video and a simple editing program like imovie. He arrived at ZIVA with two compatriots, the wild man from the left Coast, filmaker and herbalist Alfonso Alvaro and the cool man from the mountains of Colorado, architect Mark Brunner! It was immediately clear that Alex loves his toys, they were totting bagfuls of equipment and software and for three weeks ZIVA was like a toy store and we were like kids in a candy store! We travelled around the country in my Landcruiser working with the students but more so, having loads of fun! These are the three most most memorable weeks of my life at ZIVA. They donated an imac, two dv cameras, one digita lstill camera and a host of other peripherals making ZIVA quite wired up indeed. The promise of a more solid collaboration between us, however, still remains that due to a failure at fundraising.
Sherry Blankenship (Visiting Faculty) July 2000. Professor of Design at Notre Dame University, Beirut, Lebanon. Sherry is a real trooper, the FIRST ever visiting artist to teach at ZIVA for a whole month! Way to go Sherry, we are looking forward to your return trip, soon!

Jen was the second in the visiting artists series and we think the visited created a lifelong bond between her and Zimbabwe, but more so, ZIVA! We know you are coming back! |
